Purpose statement:
This qualification is intended for candidates wishing to pursue a career in the field of accounting sciences but who are uncertain about the discipline in the accounting sciences that most interests them. Owing to the exposure to financial accounting, management accounting, auditing (including internal auditing) and taxation, qualifying students will be better equipped to select the discipline of their choice, either for further studies or when seeking employment once they have qualified. This qualification is also intended for candidates who consider their arithmetic, computing and English communication skills to be below par. Students will develop the necessary skills to perform basic duties under supervision in bookkeeping, costing, auditing and taxation. They will also acquire an understanding of management and administration principles. The purpose of this qualification is to enable qualifying students to: *Perform basic functions under supervision in the field of accounting sciences, for instance, general bookkeeping, costing, auditing (including internal auditing) and tax calculations. *Understand basic management and business administration concepts. *Perform accounting calculations. *Use a computer for basic business purposes. *Communicate in English in the business world.

Qualification admission requirements

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning,
or
a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG or an E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning,
or
a National Certificate (Vocational) with at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning and where the completed vocational subjects are from the field of Business, Commerce and Management Studies.
Applicants who would like to apply for admission through recognition of prior learning (RPL) must be at least 23 years old; have completed at least Grade 10; and have at least 3 years' relevant work experience in the study field in which they would like to apply for admission to a qualification.   • R150 for online applications
  • Use the 8 digit student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie YOUR 8 digit STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)

  • Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking details and payment information

Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.
