Purpose statement:
The Advanced Certificate in Intermediate Phase Mathematics and English First Additional Language Teaching is a vocational orientated qualification. The knowledge gained emphasises the general principles and their application in Mathematics and English Education. The qualification provides teacher education learners with a sound knowledge base for teaching Mathematics and English (FAL) in Intermediate Phase. It also provides a learner with the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to classroom teaching while equipping them to undertake more specialised and intensive learning. This qualification has a strong professional focus to prepare teachers to teach mathematics in the Intermediate Phase, or to strengthen their existing Mathematics and English content knowledge in the Intermediate Phase. This qualification includes a WIL component embedded.

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

An accredited Bachelor of Education degree
or
an accredited Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or a former Higher Diploma in Education Postgraduate),
or
a minimum three-year Diploma in Education NQF Level 6,
or
a minimum three-year Teacher's Diploma NQF Level 6,
or
a National Professional Diploma in Education NQF Level 5.
Applicants who would like to apply for admission through recognition of prior learning (RPL) must be at least 23 years old; have completed Diploma at an NQF level 6; and have at least five years of relevant teaching/ work-based experience in Mathematics and English or related subject fields, as well as evidence of basic research skills. NOTE: No foreign Diploma in Education will be accepted for admission.

  • R150 for online applications
  • Use the 8 digit student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie YOUR 8 digit STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)

Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.
