Getting support

Get support

Your study success is dependent on your efforts and support from others, such as your family, employer, and friends. Negotiating the support of others means that you will help the people in your life understand the demands of ODL and that you will communicate your challenges, successes, and needs in terms of your studies. Negotiation is a give-and-take situation – you also have to think about what you can give back to those who support you. This can range from giving others feedback about your study process, spending time with them when you are not studying, and including them when you reward yourself for your success.

How to negotiate the support you need

Negotiating support means that you need to help others in your life understand the demands of studying, and communicate your needs and challenges. For example, you may need to negotiate the space and time that you need for your studies. Negotiating support also means that you need to give something in return. This may include that when you take a study break, you spend time with those who support you and give them feedback on your study progress.
