The panel discussion that Hermes will participate in, will focus on the subtheme "Harnessing Technology and IKS for Sustainable Ocean Observation and Coastal Resilience". The discussion aligns with Unisa’s CNA 1 on Marine Studies, which highlights creating awareness of how to protect the marine world from degradation. Hermes will share her perspectives on advancing ocean observation, marine governance, and the resilience of coastal communities by integrating modern technology with Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS).
The symposium, themed "Innovating for the Future: Integrating Technology, Sustainability, and Humanity", brings together academics, industry leaders and policymakers to discuss practical, research-driven solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
The symposium’s delegates, postgraduate students and early-career researchers are also invited to participate in two virtual CNA roundtables, on Friday 1 August 2025, to engage in critical discussions around key research themes that will be discussed during the symposium.
