With over 17 years at the cutting edge of the ICT industry, Baxolile Mabinya is developing a digital platform that integrates digital readiness assessments, digital skills transformation, cloud-enabled virtual labs and cloud deployment tools – insights he will share with delegates.

Unisa’s Catalytic Niche Area (CNA) Research Symposium, themed Innovating for the Future: Integrating Technology, Sustainability, and Humanity, brings together academics, industry leaders and policymakers to discuss practical, research-driven solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The symposium takes place on 30 and 31 July 2025 at the Muckleneuk Campus.

Symposium delegates, postgraduate students and early-career researchers are also invited to join two virtual CNA roundtables on Friday 1 August 2025, where they will engage in critical discussions around key research themes discussed during the CNA Symposium.

CNA 6: Fourth Industrial Revolution and Digitalisation

Date:    Wednesday 30 July 2025

Time:   14:35–15:55

Venue: Senate Hall

Panellist: Baxolile Mabinya, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Deviare

Baxolile Mabinya has spent over 17 years in the ICT industry, having worked in markets across the African continent. As the founding partner of Deviare Pty Ltd, Mabinya believes that the local ICT industry needs new institutions that will push the boundaries of African innovation and value creation.

He spent ten years of his career at Dimension Data, where, among other things, he led the group’s strategy in Africa and the Middle East, as well as establishing the company’s refocus in the telecommunications sector.

Presently, Mabinya is focused on building Deviare to be an innovative Digital Transformation organisation in Africa. At Deviare, he works with co-founder Lubabalo Dyantyi to develop a digital platform that integrates digital readiness assessments, digital skills transformation, cloud-enabled virtual labs and cloud deployment tools.

As a computer scientist, Mabinya believes that businesses can benefit from utilising the principles of complexity and adaptation in order to survive and thrive in a world that is increasingly unpredictable and full of opportunity. He hopes to contribute to the success of the ICT industry and dreams of one day establishing a school that will teach young people Computer Science and Philosophy in order to prepare them for the 4th Industrial Revolution and beyond.
