Unisa to showcase the impact of RPL Programme

The University of South Africa (Unisa) will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday, 17 November 2021 with the aim to showcase and recognise the impact of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme.

The RPL programme is designed to provide students with study opportunities for the recognition of previous knowledge, skills and competencies in order for them to have access, mobility and better career paths. It permits our prospective students to gain credits within formal certificate, diploma and degree qualifications offered by the university based on the level and extent of their knowledge

This programme is also commitment to being responsive and student-centred through the provision of a supportive and enabling environment for students with work experience and a set of skills to study further through UNISA’s comprehensive open distance e-learning (CODeL) model.

The webinar is aimed at showcasing videos profiling students who were admitted into their UNISA qualifications using the RPL process. The videos will be in all official languages, Sign Language and subtitles.

The speakers for this webinar include the following:

Khadzi Florence Masebe: Multilingual Actress and Language Activist. Ms. Masebe has acquired extensive experience in the broadcasting and entertainment industry for more than 20 years, having worked in radio, film and television both in front of camera and behind the scenes.

Prof Koliswa Moropa: A Director Unisa Department of Languages at Unisa and also a Project Leader called “Transformation - building capacity for South African languages” within the Department of Tuition Support and Facilitation of Learning. The project is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the university’s language policy.

Prof TM Sengani: A retired Professor at the Department of African Languages, Unisa. He has served the university for 35 years specializing in Discourse Analysis, Critical Language Study, Critical Discourse Analysis and recently Eco-/Environmental Linguistics.
Prof Stanley Madonsela: Professor and Chair of Department of African Languages at the Unisa. He is a co-manager of the Unisa’ research node of the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR), a research infrastructure (RI) aimed at creating digital resources to all South Africa’s official languages to stimulate research and development in the Humanities and Social Sciences. He is also the former Editor-in-Chief of the Southern African Journal for Folklore Studies accredited by DHET.

Prof Veronica Mckay: Acting Vice-Principal: Teaching, Learning, Community Engagement and Student Support at Unisa.
