The 3rd Unisa and Chief Albert Luthuli Research Chair Founders Lecture

This year marks 60 years since Chief Albert Luthuli was awarded the Nobel Price Peace. To commemorate the life of this laureate and great South African, the University of South Africa (Unisa) in partnership with the Luthuli Museum will be hosting the 3rd Chief Albert Luthuli Research Chair Lecture on Thursday, 04 November 2021 under the theme “Let My People Go”: Reflecting Critically on Chief Albert Luthuli's varied legacies”.

Chief Albert John Mvumbi Luthuli was President-General of the African National Congress (ANC) from December 1952 until his death in 1967. He was one of the most widely known and respected African leaders of his era. A latecomer to politics, the Chief was 54 when he assumed the leadership of the ANC. Over the course of his political career his approach became increasingly militant. 

This year’s lecture will be delivered by Ms. Thandi Modise the Minister of the South African Defence and Military Veterans (SAD&MV), and followed by the following respondents:  

  • Prof Tinyiko Maluleke:  Deputy Director – Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship, University of Pretoria (UP) 
  • Dr Vuyolwethu Seti: Head of the Office of Transformation, Unisa College of Human Sciences   

 The lecture will be held as follow:
