Exceptional - without exception

The College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) would like to congratulate Prof Mbalenhle Zulu, who is a 2020 finalist for the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Top 35-under-35 competition.

The Top-35-under-35 competition was launched by SAICA in 2014 to recognise its young CA(SA) achievers. It has proven to be a huge success in recognising and promoting chartered accountants under the age of 35 who are not just achieving extraordinary results in their professional capacity, but also have a significant impact on society.

All 35 finalists are individuals who have not only successfully pursued their career dreams, but have also excelled and moved swiftly through the ranks to lead operations within notable organisations. Zulu is one such young professional. Affectionately known as Mbali, she is a qualified chartered accountant, an Associate Professor in the Department of Financial Accounting, and a CAS PhD candidate. She is also a Comrades Marathon medallist.

Community engagement projects

  • Currently, Zulu is the secretary-general of We Are Runners - with the focus on community upliftment through running
  • Keep a girl child in school project - involves the collection and distribution of sanitary towels
  • Breast cancer awareness projects - creating awareness around breast cancer
  • Unisa’s Take a Girl Child to Work Day events - providing information regarding career paths in the various accounting fields

The college is very proud of Zulu and wishes her all the best. To be selected as a SAICA Top-35-under-35 finalist is indeed an outstanding accomplishment and it is commendable that between her studies and workload, she still finds time to contribute immensely to her community.
