Unisa 2020 Qualification changes

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande announced on 6 July 2016 that 31 December 2019 would be the last enrolment date for first-time entering students into old qualifications that are not aligned to the HEQSF. Kindly refer to Government Gazette No: 40123.

This means that some old qualifications that are not HEQSF aligned will be phased out as follows:

  1. The last registration date for new students on the non‐aligned qualifications was January 2019 for year modules and July/August 2019 for semester modules.

  2. All students who are currently registered for the (old) non-aligned qualifications will not be affected and can continue studying in the qualification unless they wish to be transferred to a new aligned qualification.

  3. Students who are currently registered for an (old) non-aligned qualification will be permitted to complete their qualification in terms of the teach out plans for each of those qualifications.

All old non-aligned qualifications will be replaced by new HEQSF aligned replacement qualifications. These new qualifications are advertised on the Unisa website. We expect that additional qualifications will be open for application and registration as soon as the accreditation processes have been finalised.

Kindly watch the Unisa website for updates on additional available replacement qualifications that will be offered in the 2020 academic year.
