Patricia Gouws of I-SET briefs the teams

Inspired towards Science, Engineering, and Technology (I-SET), a community engagement flagship project of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET), successfully hosted yet another great Science on Saturday workshop on 27 April 2019 on Freedom Day.

Only one team RSVP’d for the workshop but the day ended with at least four teams present. I-SET’s Patricia Gouws and Andzani Sibiya both facilitated the workshop and there was a surprise cake for everyone to snack as a way of saying thank you to the teams for spending their Freedom Day with us.

According to Patience Rammutla from the Moipone Science Academy, it was her first time visiting the Unisa Science Campus Robotics Hub and she had never built a robot using Lego before. She mentioned that although they have Lego robots at their academy, she has never built or programmed one before and this was by far the best experience thus far.

Somila Nyoka from Curiosity Team in Noordgesig, Soweto, also had a lot of positive things to share with us. Nyoka, who named their robot ‘Steve’, mentioned that there had been a lot of trial and error ever since their team started with the robotics workshops and he was confident in bragging that his team had successfully completed four missions and was looking forward to working on other missions to score about 200 points.

I-SET is proud of hosting the teams and you can visit our Twitter page for photos and what went down on Saturday.
