Another year of successful engaged scholarship

Between November 2022 and November 2023, the department hosted successful workshops with History Educators in Tzaneen, Limpopo and stakeholder engagements with the Department of Basic Education officials in Polokwane and Amajuba District, Newcastle, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The Skills Training for History Educators project led by Mr Thembinkosi Khumalo targets the challenge of uninventive History teaching in many schools, which emanates from lack of didactical guidance and emotional support for History educators, as well as outdated teaching and learning strategies and resource materials. This development problem is addressed through face-to-face workshops; the provision of resource and didactical materials to participants; and training of curriculum advisors to assist in taking the acquired learning into the remote areas. It also creates opportunities for the teacher communities in different districts to network and share ideas, teaching techniques and resources.

More workshops and stakeholder engagements are planned for 2024. Anyone interested in partnering with us should contact Mr Khumalo at ekhumat@unisa.ac.za
