  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Industrial Psychology at the University of the Western Cape
  • Honours in Public Administration from UNISA
  • Master’s in Public Administration (with a dissertation in Citizen Participation) from UNISA
  • Doctorate in Administration (with a thesis in public service transformation and organisational culture) from UNISA
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Helderberg College - Andrews University (USA)

Other

Valiant Clapper is Professor in Public Administration and Management at the University of South Africa. He served as Executive Dean  in  the  College  of  Economic  and Management Sciences at UNISA until August 2014.  He also held the substantive position of Deputy Executive Dean, and Executive Director of the Unisa School of Business Leadership between 2009 and 2012.

Prof. Clapper authored numerous articles published in accredited journals, and contributed towards seven books published nationally and internationally.  

Valiant received a number of awards during his almost 25 years in academia, foremost of which is the distinguished Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence award, which afforded him the opportunity to serve as visiting professor at Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.   He was also visiting professor to the Kentucky State University, Kentucky, USA, the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and the Catholic University of Northern Tilburg, the Netherlands.

He  has  been  involved  in  elevating  student  participation  in  the  college, university, and South African society at large, sponsoring relevant   student activities and initiatives.   The development and current active student involvement in student life of the Economic and Management Sciences Student Association, the Student Business Initiative Challenge, Tshwane Hub of the Young Global Shapers, and the World Economic Forum stand as evidence of his efforts.

Valiant is married to Lauren, and they have two adult sons
