Ms Corlia Alers, Lecturer

Corlia attended Rustenburg High School and matriculated in 1987. Thereafter, she studied for a
Corlia is currently studying towards a Doctorate degree in Public Administration and Management. Her research focuses on the determining and revision of methods and procedures as an administrative function.
In addition to her formal studies, she has attended several short courses in advanced computing, and other courses ranging from channelling diversity and supervisory skills, to ethics and values in the workplace. She is a registered assessor and moderator at ETDP and various other SETAs.
Corlia was initially employed as a research assistant in Public Administration at the University of Potchefstroom before moving to the public service in 1992 as an administration officer at the Gauteng Department of Transport; becoming an assistant director in 2005 in the Directorate Law Administration. She successfully applied her expertise and experience in the field of lecturing when she joined a private Further Education and Training college in 2006. From 2006 to 2013, she focused on lecturing short courses and workshops, such as fraud and corruption prevention, as well as qualifications in Public Administration. She was also involved in the design and development of training material for a number of subjects and qualifications.
Ms Alers was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and Management in March 2014. She is responsible for the following subjects: Nature, Content and Scope of Public Administration I, Protection Services II and Environmental Affairs II. She recently took interest in human settlement management. Corlia is also supervisor and co-supervisor for a number of Masters degree students.
In 2015, Ms Alers received the College of Economic and Management Sciences Omni Award for Teaching and Learning, and she was nominated in 2016 for the College Excellence Award in Module Design. She presented her module design approach at the 2016 Unisa Teaching and Learning Festival.
