Programme in Advanced Safety Management (76914)

Duration: The Programme in Advanced Safety Management is a 12 month programme.

Target group:

Managers at all levels in all types of business enterprises in South and Southern Africa will be empowered to perform their safety responsibilities with greater effectiveness. Qualified safety practitioners will experience a hike in their competence to perform their staff functionary safety responsibilities towards line managers who are primarily responsible for health and safety in the workplace.

Admission requirements:

National Senior Certificate
Or
3 years of experience in the field of Occupational health, safety and environment
And
Completed Programme in Safety Management

Registration periods:

No online registration for these short programme/courses are available through the official website.
Registration takes place from 1 December until the end of March . The fee per candidate is
R8000.00. This includes all study material, examinations fees etc. (A Centre for Business Management
registration form must be completed and submitted before full payment).

Purpose statement:

Students accredited with this unit standard will be able to influence the direct impact on behaviour and performance of organisational safety with the view to optimising overall safety by implementing processes and practices, including aspects impacting employee behaviour and organisational culture.

APSM01N - Managing Safety Culture

Content: Topic 1: Characteristics of a safety culture Topic 2: Establishing a safety culture Topic 3: Safety management vision statements, goals and Objectives. Topic 4: Development and execution of an effective safety management system Topic 5: Assess the effectiveness of an existing safety management system

APSM02M - Supervising Safety

Content: Topic 1: Safety supervisor's goals and responsibilities in the workplace Topic 2: Identification and evaluation of chemical and physical hazards in the workplace Topic 3: Concepts and development of an employee safety programme Topic 4: Role of ergonomics in the workplace Topic 5: Key elements of safe materials handling and storage

APSM03O - Safety System

Content: Topic 1: Elements of a safety system Topic 2: Differences between posteriori safety and priori safety Topic 3: System Safety Programme Plan (SSPP) Topic 4: Quantitative methods and safety data analysis Topic 5: Evaluation tools for safety and risk analysis

APSM04P - Design for Safety

Content: Topic 1: Characteristics and qualities of a successful safety professional Topic 2: Analyse and assess the importance of management's role in safety Topic 3: Necessity, processes and implementation of risk assessment. Topic 4: Necessity, processes of development and implementation of control measures Topic 5: Personal ownership for safety as cornerstone for safety excellence
