Purpose statement:

The purpose of this module is to conscientize, more specifically the newly appointed shop stewards about the psychological side of the role. The newly appointed shop stewards should have a clear understanding of the origin of shop stewardship, the history of trade unions and shop stewardship in the world and in South Africa, get to know how COSATU and other stakeholder got involved in politics and more importantly be aware of common reasons why people become shop stewards; their own reasons for becoming shop stewards; understand the experiences of past shop stewards within the role, challenges experienced by other shop stewards and challenges they should anticipate within the role, as well as tried and tested solution to deal with challenges within the shop stewardship role
