In August 2021, the university provided a status update to the university community regarding ensuing litigation between itself and a former employee, Mr Modidima Mannya. At the time, the university announced that the three matters brought by Mr Mannya against the university were before court and were being dealt with accordingly.
The matter pertaining to the termination of his contract was heard in court on Wednesday, 15 September 2021. The court has dismissed his urgent application contesting the termination of his contract with the costs of two counsels. The Court further found that the termination of his contract was constitutional and lawful.
This also renders his urgent application in April 2021 to interdict his suspension moot.
The university now regards the matter of his employment status as closed and would like to focus on the core business of the university and its optimum functioning.
