Panellist Mic Mann, Co-CEO of UBU and Singularity Africa
Highly respected African futurist and exponential technologist, Mic Mann, will be a featured panellist during Unisa’s Catalytic Niche Area (CNA) Research Symposium, taking place from 30 to 31 July 2025.
Held under the theme Innovating for the Future: Integrating Technology, Sustainability, and Humanity, the symposium will bring together diverse stakeholders to explore practical challenges and solutions that Unisa scholars can address through cutting-edge research and innovation.
Not to be left out, postgraduate students and emerging researchers are invited to participate in two virtual CNA Postgraduate Students and Emerging Researchers Round Tables, on Friday 1 August 2025, to debate and reflect on the interactions and overlaps within the Catalytic Niche Areas discussed at the symposium.

With contributions from industry leaders and experts, the symposium aims to foster collaborative research, build partnerships, and pave the way for impactful, future-ready innovation.

Mic Mann is an entrepreneur, futurist, storyteller and speaker on how exponential technologies can help #futureproofAfrica. He is the co-CEO of UBU (formerly Africarare) and Singularity South Africa. After completing his honours degree in scriptwriting, directing and film producing at AFDA, Mic joined the family business, Mann Made, as co-CEO. Over the last 23 years at the award-winning experiential brand agency, he has created 360-degree events and marketing campaigns for some of the largest organisations in South Africa and Fortune 500 companies. Since bringing Singularity to the continent in 2016, alongside his partners, he has been educating, inspiring and empowering Africans through Singularity Executive Programmes, summits and multimedia events to help build a global community of changemakers who want to have a positive impact. As an avid gamer, Mic has developed numerous online games, digital spaces and metaverse environments alongside his studio at Mann Made.
In 2021, he co-founded Africa’s first metaverse, UBU, to unlock Africa’s online potential and connect the continent to the global digital economy. Mic speaks regularly about VR, AR, the online global economy, blockchain gaming, education, the future of work and the changing role of professionals.
