Unisa graduations back in full swing

Prof Puleng LenkaBula capping Unisa graduates

Unisa’s autumn graduations recommenced on 27 June, and will run until 5 August 2022.

The first round of the graduation ceremonies takes place in Polokwane and thereafter ceremonies will be held in Tshwane, Cape Town, Durban, and East London on selected dates, which will be communicated directly to affected students.

For Unisa, graduations are crucial and sacred not only for students who laboured during their academic journey but also for their respective families and relatives. It is a tradition treasured throughout the history of the university.

Graduations at Unisa symbolise the pinnacle and culmination the hard work both  students and academics put in over the years. The university takes pride in this sacred tradition that seeks to honour, recognise, and reward hard work, academic success, and excellence.

As Shonda Rhimes so aptly commented:

Dreams are lovely. But they are just dreams. Fleeting, ephemeral and pretty. But dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It’s hard work that makes things happen. It’s hard work that creates change.

For many of Unisa’s students, graduation ceremonies serve as the first ever meaningful recognition and achievement – the fulfilment of not only a lifelong dream, but the restoration of their sense of worth and indeed the reaffirmation of their humanity.

Unisa extends its sincerest appreciation to Unisans whose hard work and dedication have made it possible for the graduation ceremonies to resume. The university equally recognises and thanks the affected students and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding given the inconvenience caused by the postponement of the graduations.

The university calls on all stakeholders, especially staff members, to play their part in ensuring that the graduations are a resounding success and memorable for the graduating students and their loved ones.
