Bringing career opportunities to aspiring accountants at Sun International Hotel

On Wednesday, 16 March 2022, the College of Accounting Sciences, together with Unisa’s Counselling and Career Development (Directorate; Regional Service), attended a career day organised by Sun International Hotel at Time Square.  The career day was the first of its kind in which staff members from different departments at Sun International Hotel were given an opportunity to interact with academic institutions. 200 hotel staff members attended the event.

Representing Counselling and Career Development Directorate are Trainee Career Guidance Practitioner; Ms Bongiwe Mkhondo, Ms Mahlatse Mphahlele, Mr Stanley Msimango; CAS Marketing Section, Mr Moses Molapise; Unisa Library. Back: Ms Koketso Munonde, Mr Tshego Mashigo; CAS: Student support and Mr Kagiso Mekeo; Student Counsellor.

The career days focused on bringing information which can assist staff members in making life-changing decisions. To encourage their employees to develop themselves, Sun International offers several bursaries, which allow staff members to study for any qualification of their choice, including qualifications in the accounting field. The College of Accounting Sciences was present at career day to market all qualifications they offer, including master’s and doctoral studies.

Hotel staff members who attended the career day were excited to have Unisa as one of the exhibitors. One staff member expressed her gratitude to Unisa, saying that due to the nature of their work, Unisa remains the best institution to study through since they can study online in the comfort of their own homes.
