Unisa student health and wellness support group

The incidence of breast cancer among women is increasing and it is one of the most common cancers among women in South Africa. October is designated as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" and reflects a nationwide drive to raise awareness of this debilitating disease across all races and class structures. Your knowledge about breast cancer as a student is important for your health and wellness, and adopting healthy habits early is so important for later in life.

The breast cancer survivors support group is for Unisa students who are either living with or who have survived breast cancer. The purpose of the group is for members to get support from others in a safe and confidential setting.

Discussion topics will be determined by the group and may include issues related to

  • a healthy lifestyle
  • treatment support
  • relationships
  • self care
  • challenges
  • coping mechanisms

If you would like to join the group in your region or if you would like to learn more, please send an e-mail to studenthealth@unisa.ac.za or call 012 429 6420.

All enquiries and discussions will be kept confidential in line with the POPI Act. The place and time of group meetings will be communicated and scheduled with interested students. Online groups are also available. In your enquiry please indicate your region and/or if you would like to join the online support group.
