The University of South Africa (Unisa) confirms that it received a call from an anonymous caller alleging that there is a bomb in one of its administrative buildings at the Muckleneuck Campus. As a safety precaution, the university immediately evacuated staff, students and other stakeholders from the building and the campus. The university also reported the bomb threat to the relevant branch of the South African Police Services (SAPS), who immediately dispatched a unit to the campus.
After thoroughly sweeping the building, the SAPS have assured the university that no bomb was found in the building and that it was safe for staff, students and stakeholders to return to the campus and to resume their normal business.
The university has also opened a case with the police, who are now conducting an investigation into the bomb threat.
