Unisa notes the increase in Eskom's loadshedding

South Africans have been largely inconvenienced by the increased instances of loadshedding by Eskom over the past few months. Students are advised to charge their devices and plan for alternative venues for their online examinations against their loadshedding schedules. Undergraduate students using their first examination opportunity in the October/November 2022 examinations and are affected by poor network connectivity and are unable to complete their examinations will be granted an automatic second opportunity to write in the next official examination sitting of the affected module.

Postgraduate students using their first examination opportunity who were adversely affected by loadshedding and/or network challenges during their examinations are requested to apply for an aegrotat. Postgraduate students using their first examination opportunity who experienced the death of loved ones or illness during the examinations are also expected to apply for an aegrotat. The process to apply for an aegrotat examination is as follows:

1. Login to myUnisa and go to MyAdmin.
2. Select the examination timetable on Assessment Admin.
3. Click on Display to view your Oct/Nov timetable.
4. Click on "Apply for Aegrotat Examination" and enter the details required. You are required to attach supporting documentation; an affidavit may suffice.

Postgraduate students have 10 days from the date of the examination to apply for an aegrotat.

Please note postgraduate students using their first examination opportunity who have started an MCQ examination and experienced irrecoverable incidences during their MCQ assessment, may apply for an aegrotat by sending your application to aegrotats@unisa.ac.za. All other postgraduate students are advised to follow the above-mentioned process.

In addition, in accordance with policy, Unisa does not grant third examination opportunities to students to rewrite their missed examinations. Also note modules with portfolio (evidence-based) assessment, continuous assessment, practical assessment, experiential assessment or require research reports, do not have a second examination opportunity. Such students are advised to refer to their tutorial letters for more information.
