Unisa message to students: 17 April 2020

The May/June 2020 examination period to continue using alternative assessment formats

The extension of the national lockdown declared by President Cyril Ramaphosa has meant that Unisa has had to make some far-reaching decisions regarding the May/June 2020 examination period.

The May/June 2020 examination period will continue, but no venue-based examinations will be written during this time. The university will, instead, make use of alternative assessment formats for this examination period.

Your lecturers will confirm on myUnisa the type of examination you will write for each module. This information will be available on myUnisa early in May 2020. While the May/June 2020 examinations will take a different format, we remind you that Unisa has a zero tolerance for any form of plagiarism or examination dishonesty.

While we wish to encourage all students to make use of the non-venue based May/June exam opportunity, students who are unable to complete this assessment will automatically be deferred to the October/November 2020 examination period without penalty or additional cost.

We urge you to continue working on your assignments and preparing for your exams during this challenging time

Assignments

Hardcopy assignments

Unisa members of staff are working online from home due to the nationwide lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, no hardcopy assignments can currently be processed.

All students who submitted hardcopy assignments are requested to re-submit the assignments online via myUnisa to ensure that the assignments can be marked and so that students can be admitted to the examinations according to the set criteria.

Extension of assignment dates for year course modules

The assignment due dates for year courses have been extended as follows:

  • Assignment 1 from 29 May 2020 to 19 June 2020.
  • All other assignment due dates before 19 June 2020 will also be moved to 19 June 2020.
  • All portfolio dates remain the same.

Audit of completed qualifications

All final-year students' records are audited by the Directorate: Student Admissions and Registrations to verify that qualifications are complete.

Due to the current lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university is operating with limited resources to finalise the audit of qualifications.

We appeal for your patience and understanding during this time of crisis and promise to expedite the audit process with more capacity after the lockdown has been lifted. We would also like to apologise for the delay and inconvenience caused under the current circumstances.

If you have completed your qualification, but have not received any notification by 30 April 2020, please send an e-mail to DSAR-FIAudit@unisa.ac.za. Please check your myLife e-mail account for feedback.
