Submit an article and stand a chance to attend the budget vote in Parliament

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation will deliver her budget vote speech on 25 May 2017 in Cape Town. The budget vote will focus on the work of the department in the past financial year and what it intends to do in the next financial year. We would therefore like to invite students from various tertiary institutions in Cape Town and Pretoria to be part of the debate to be facilitated by Deputy Minister Landers after Minister Nkoana-Mashabane has delivered her budget vote.

In the run-up to the vote, the department is running a competition where students are required to write an article (see attached guidelines) and the winner will get an opportunity to attend the budget vote in Parliament, courtesy of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).

Below are the four topics to choose from (please select only 1 topic):

  1. South Africa’s intention to withdraw from the ICC and how it will impact us as a country and the continent
  2. The significance of South Africa as the Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)
  3. The fundamental impact of xenophobic incidents and attacks in South Africa: How it will impact our economy and national security
  4. The BREXIT impact on the South African economy

Articles are to be submitted by 5 May 2017 to ledwabal@dirco.gov.zamotsisid@dirco.gov.za and matlakeng@dirco.gov.za
