Students with special needs and incarcerated students are exempted from proctoring

What is proctoring tool?

A proctoring tool is an online invigilator tool that requires a laptop/desktop with a functional camera. This tool verifies the student’s identity and monitors the student’s movements and gestures during examination using the camera.

Who are exempted from using the proctoring tool?

Unisa has considered exempting the following student groups from using proctoring tools, given the limitations associated with using these devices:

  • Students living with disabilities
  • Incarcerated students

This means students falling within these categories will write their examinations without being required to use proctoring tools. Alternative processes will take place in assuring examination integrity for these students.
