Online applications are now open for the 2026 Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) for returning students registered for formal qualifications

The 2026 AOD application is available online and is only open to returning students who are registered for formal qualifications.

Students registering for the first time must pay the minimum registration fee. You may, however, apply for AOD after registration when adding modules or registering for semester 2 modules. 

Please take note of the following important information regarding the AOD application process:

  1. How to access the AOD application: The AOD web tool is available for returning students only. Login to myUnisa using your student number and password, and then click on "myAdmin" and "Student Finance". In the drop‑down list, select "AOD Application" and follow the prompts.
  2. Supporting documents: Upload the compulsory supporting documents on myUnisa. You can then view the status of your AOD application by logging in to myUnisa and clicking on "myAdmin" and "Student Finance".
  3. Communication of outcomes: You will receive an e-mail to your myLife e-mail address once
    • your AOD application has been approved;
    • declined (with the reason provided), or
    • if outstanding documents need to be uploaded.


Terms and conditions for 2026 AOD applications 

Conditions to sign an Acknowledgement of Debt (hereinafter referred as the AOD) for semester 1, 2 and year modules for the current academic year:

  1. The AOD form must be completed and signed by the student, similar to online registrations.
  2. The historic debt must be settled.
  3. Students applying for AOD must be temporarily registered (TP).
  4. Only students that have proof of income will be considered for an AOD. Proof of income may include a payslip/parental proof of income/household proof of income/bank statement.
  5. Students who do not have an income must obtain the consent of the person responsible for settling the account in order for the university to verify their income (please download and complete the consent form).
  6. A student who has not honoured a previous AOD and has outstanding fees must first settle the debt before an AOD for the current academic year will be considered.
  7. The AOD is limited to South African students only, with the exception of a foreign student who resides within South Africa. Such students must attach the following documents:
    1. Copy of passport/identification
    2. Valid permit to reside in South Africa
    3. Proof of income
    4. Proof of address
  8. First-time students not approved by NSFAS will be considered, provided that they comply with the above conditions.


AOD online applications: Important dates

The AOD applications for formal qualifications will be open as follows:

  • First semester modules: 20 January 2026 – 20 February 2026
  • Undergraduate second semester & year modules: 20 January 2026 – 20 March 2026
  • Honours and postgraduate diplomas: 20 January 2026 – 31 March 2026
  • Master's & doctoral qualifications: 20 January 2026 – 31 March 2026
