Mobile data provision and zero-rated sites

The university wishes to remind you of the following arrangements regarding mobile data and zero-rated sites:

  • Mobile data provision: Mobile data will be provided to qualifying students during examination periods from October 2025 to June 2026. Students admitted for the May/June 2026 examinations will receive data.
  • Zero-rated sites: All registered students will continue to have access to Unisa zero-rated sites through reverse billing until September 2026.

How does the university provision data?

A list of qualifying students (admitted for exams) is extracted from the Student System during examination periods and sent to mobile network operators (MNOs) by the end of each month. Data is then provisioned from the 1st of the following month.

What must students do to receive data?

Students must ensure that their cell phone number is updated on the Student System by completing the DSAR03 form and submitting it to SCSC at dataqueries@unisa.ac.za, together with a copy of their ID or passport.

How do you report data queries?

Students must escalate data provisioning queries to SCSC via:
