Did you know?

Unisa has an Ombudsman!

The Office of the Ombudsman provides an independent, impartial and confidential service to members of the Unisa community – at no cost.

Before contacting the Ombudsman

You are required to first exhaust all available avenues within the university, accessible on the Unisa website.

How to lodge a complaint

To submit a complaint, you must complete the Ombudsman Referral Form.

The Ombudsman can assist with the following:

Any decision, action or lack of action by the university which an affected person considers to be inadequate and/or is tantamount to administrative malpractice.

The Ombudsman does not deal with the following:

  • Labour and employment-related matters, which must be addressed through the university's approved grievance, disciplinary and labour relations procedures.
  • Decisions or conduct of the university Council, Senate, Institutional Forum or their respective committees.
  • Matters of academic judgement (such as the quality of a student's academic performance), unless they involve unfair marking, assessment irregularities, examination procedure concerns or actual or perceived bias.
  • Matters that are or have been the subject of judicial, arbitration or other formal proceedings resulting in an external binding ruling.
  • Complaints that are frivolous or vexatious.
