Call for registration / nominations for student structures / organisations to participate in the 2018 SRC Election

In line with clause 2.7 of the Unisa Electoral Policy for a Student Representative Council, the IEC hereby makes a call to all student organisations / structures within Unisa to apply / register to participate in the 2018 Unisa SRC Election.


The process and requirements

Student organisations willing to participate in the election must register with the IEC and provide the following:

 

Eligibility of students appearing on the handwritten list in terms of clause 2.3 of the SRC Constitution and clause 2.7.3 of the EP

  • Students who are eligible to vote are also eligible to nominate.
  • Only students registered for a formal qualification can nominate / vote.
    • Formal qualification include:
      • Higher certificate
      • Diploma
      • Degree
      • Postgraduate studies, such as advanced diploma, honours, master's or doctorate
  • Students registered for informal qualifications are not eligible to nominate or vote.
    • Informal qualification include:
      • Short Learning Programmes
      • Certificate Programmes
      • NDP


Opening and closing dates

Applications / registrations / nominations by organisations / structures willing to participate in the 2018 Unisa SRC Election open on 1 May 2018 and close on 31 May 2018.


Submissions

The registration forms, signed Electoral Code of Conduct, handwritten and signed list, as well as the Constitution and list of executive committee members of organisations / structures should be e-mailed to the Chairperson of the IEC via the Srcelections@unisa.ac.za e-mail address by 16:00 on 31 May 2018.

Hard copies

Submit to the SRC elections regional administrators based at the following Unisa offices.

Sunnyside / Johannesburg / Polokwane / Rustenburg / East London / Nelspruit / Parow and Durban.


Important:

  • The IEC will only register organisations / structures that comply with the above-mentioned requirements. Should an organisation / structure manage to secure the required information on time, they are allowed to submit immediately to the IEC instead of waiting for the last day. This will give the IEC ample time to do the verification as and when the registrations are received.
  • It is a requirement that the process is done both manually and electronically.
