2017 Call for I-SET Buddies

13 January 2017

Dear Unisa student and potential I-SET Buddy!

Inspired towards Science, Engineering and Technology (I-SET) is a community engagement flagship project of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology CSET at Unisa. An aim of the project is to inspire and create awareness of Science, Engineering and Technology through the activities of robotics. I-SET has a community of coaches and mentors of educators, community leaders, students and parents who are equipped to coach and mentor teams of learners in robotics.

Our team of I-SET Ambassadors (recruited in 2012) have now all graduated, thus I-SET is recruiting a new group of I-SET Buddies. Students must be registered, and have successfully completed at least 3 first level modules.

To apply for selection: Unfortunately, only 30 students can be selected. Please complete the form by Sunday 22 January 2017: https://goo.gl/forms/JbOxQSjI4gm0guZf2

Once you are selected, you will be invited to attend an information sharing workshop on 25 January 2017 at the I-SET Robotics Hub, Unisa Science Campus.

Once you (as a selected candidate) have completed the robotics mentorship training (in Semester 1 of 2017), you will be required to:

  • To facilitate at least one robotics workshop in 2017 for learners. You will not be paid, however, your accommodation and travel expenses will be covered.
  • To volunteer as judge or referee at a Robotics competition.

By December 2017, you shall be an I-SET Buddy. After two years (and many workshops), you may be upgraded to an I-SET Ambassador!

Should you require more information, you are welcome to email me: gouwspm@unisa.ac.za

Kindly

Patricia Gouws (I-SET coordinator), Kabelo Pheeha (I-SET events) and Tanja Karp (I-SET Fulbright)
