Call for members of the YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa Advisory Board

The Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (YALI RLC SA), located at the University of South Africa School of Business Leadership (Unisa SBL) and overseen by Unisa, is a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. The YALI RLC SA is seeking new members to join the Advisory Board for the 2020/2023 mandate period. The elections will take place on 29 and 30 April 2020.

The Advisory Board shall provide strategic advice to the management and leadership of the YALI RLC SA and provide support to ensure that the initiative remains true to its mission and objectives. As such, its members will raise awareness of the programme, mobilise stakeholders and their commitments, and conduct advocacy and outreach to ensure future sustainability of the programme.

The Advisory Board will also identify and advise on strategic partnerships, innovative solutions and potential remedies that further the overarching objective of the YALI RLC SA. The overarching objective of the YALI RLC SA is to provide a platform and tools to empower dynamic young Africans, and to awaken their innate leadership potential for the benefit of Africa and its global partners.  The YALI RLC SA programme aims to create critical thinkers by solving complex and multidisciplinary problems relating to contemporary African issues through the promotion of entrepreneurial thinking; inculcating innovative use of knowledge and opportunities; and promoting multicultural communication and collaboration.

In addition to previous board experience in the private or public, and/or voluntary/non-profit sector, the ideal candidate should have some of the following key competencies:

  • Expertise in sound management and operational business processes and practices in the private or public sector
  • Experience in legal principles, processes and systems
  • Experience in grant writing and avail of excellent writing skills
  • Experience in strategic human resource management
  • Experience in accounting or financial management
  • Experience in communication, public relations or interacting with the media
  • Experience in enterprise risk management
  • Experience in IT applications and systems

The functions of the members of the YALI RLC SA will be rendered on a pro-bono basis and membership will be for a period not exceeding three years. The Advisory Board shall consist of a maximum of 15 members.
