Unisa SBL celebrates African Queens

The Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) held a Women's Month celebration by bringing together women and men from different walks of life. The event was a momentous occasion to commemorate the institution's rich history while unpacking the topic, African Queens: Celebrating the essence of womanhood.

The theme aimed to capture the spirit and strength of African women. It acknowledged the unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs that shape their identities and celebrates their contributions to various spheres of society—evoking images of robust, resilient, and confident women who have overcome adversity and significantly impacted their communities.

The event delved into the complexities of womanhood and showcased the multifaceted roles that African women embody. From caregivers and nurturers to entrepreneurs and activists, African women have repeatedly proven that they can achieve greatness in any endeavour they undertake.

Attendees were also invited to reflect on their experiences and identities as women, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. The exercise encouraged individuals to embrace their unique strengths and talents, empowering them to make a difference in their own lives and the lives of others.

The event featured an impressive lineup of speakers and panellists, including Honourable Judith Tshabalala, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, who delivered a keynote address on the importance of women's leadership in driving social change. Another notable speaker was Carol Bouwer, a renowned entrepreneur. As the Chief Executive Officer of Miss World SA, Bouwer has shattered glass ceilings and paved the way for women in the business world. Professor Pumela Msweli, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Unisa SBL, shared insights and experiences that undoubtedly ignited a sense of ambition and determination in the audience.

Speakers encouraged working together to create a more inclusive and equitable society where every woman can thrive and succeed.
