Great honour bestowed upon Unisa SBL’s Professor Extraordinaire by Ghanaian President

The Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership’s (SBL) first-ever appointed Professor Extraordinaire for supply and value chain management in Africa, Prof Douglas Boateng, was appointed independent chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) by Ghanaian President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.

Prof Boateng, a South Africa-based Ghanaian and founder and CEO of the PanAvest International and Partners, a vertical-specific human capital development organization will be performing a non-executive supervisory role at the Authority to help transform and reposition the organisation in support of Ghana’s long-term industrialisation and socio-economic developmental agenda.

Prof Boateng, recognised as one of the vertical-specific global strategic thinkers on procurement, emerging world industrialisation governance, logistics, and industrial engineering in the context of supply and value chain management, assured to assist the Ghanaian government to use supply chain thinking to improve and grow Ghana and the region’s industrialization endeavours. The international supply chain expert says supply chain management and in particular, procurement strategies are increasingly becoming influential in informing and ensuring successful industrialisation and socio-economic development initiatives in Africa and across the globe.

According to Dr Renosi Mokate Executive Dean of UNISASBL, Africa’s largest business school, the institution is extremely proud of Prof Boateng’s appointment. “His experiences on the global stage and his understanding of amongst others the procurement, logistics, manufacturing and production aspects of supply chain management in a developing economy context will be instrumental in assisting the Ghanaian government to achieve the country’s long-term strategic objectives”, says Mokate.

Prof Boateng is one of the leading drivers at sbl to improve specialist skills in Supply Chain Management.  “Through the hard work and dedication of Prof Boateng and other SBL academics we have a public and private sector contingent engaged with our Masters of Business Leadership (MBL) and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programmes as well as our executive education programmes at SBL. We also focus on supply chain management in specific public lectures and other interventions focused on different aspects of supply chain management,” says Mokate.

“Prof Boateng’s commitment to the professionalization of supply chain management in general and procurement in particular is being acknowledged and affirmed by this appointment” enthused Mr Ozias Ncube, senior lecturer in supply chain management at the SBL.

The SBL wishes Prof Boateng all the best with his new appointment. The business school believes that supply chain management is key to the long-term success of all public and private sector organisations and the future industrialisation of South Africa, as well as the rest of the African continent. As one of the leading business schools on the continent the SBL will continue to play leading academic and industrial roles and support initiatives such as this appointment, which serves as a commitment to strengthen the growth of Africa’s industrialisation.
