Professor Rajaram is a Chartered Accountant (SA) with a PhD in Accounting. His PhD focused on Business Rescue and was the winner of the SAIPA best PhD Thesis in 2019.
His academic career commenced in 2007 after a successful career in commerce, having held senior executive positions such as the Regional Representative of the World Bank’s African Projects Development Facility. Prof Rajaram also served as a Business Rescue Practitioner and Turnaround Consultant for clients such as the Industrial Development Corporation and National Productivity Institute.
He has leveraged his academic career on the fundamental business principle of sustainability, which manifests in his approach to academic leadership, research, supervision, community outreach and mentorship of staff.
Prof Rajaram has held several leadership positions in academia. These include:
- Serving on the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Senate for a three-year term.
- Establishing and serving on the management of the University’s Business Rescue Unit.
- Serving on the South African Institute of Chartered Accountant’s Legal Compliance Committee.
- Serving as an employer and employee appointed pension and provident fund trustee.
He has supervised numerous PhDs and master’s students in the fields of financial management, business sustainability, accounting and taxation. He also published extensively in local and international peer reviewed journals.
Prof Rajaram is an Honorary Research Fellow of the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Visiting Professor at the University of Chandigarh in India.
