Moodle LMS research and innovation for the  MoodleMoot Africa Hybrid Conference 20-22 August 2023 hosted by Unisa

Papers are invited from both established and emergent Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) practitioners, researchers, and scholars for the MoodleMoot Africa 2023 hybrid conference (in person and broadcast) which will be held from 20-22 August 2023 (pre-conference workshops 21 August). The aim of the conference is to bring together the Moodle community in UNISA, SADC,  Africa and the rest of the world to share Moodle best practises and improve the quality of online, e-learning education and training in a globally connected digital era.

I.       Conference Theme

MoodleMoot Africa 2023 hosted by Unisa
Reimagining the student walk/journey to achieve improved student success and best user experience in the Post COVID, 4IR era: The Moodle LMS perspective

II.      Sub-themes

Specific sub-themes delegates might want to consider include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Innovation in 4IR era - Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, robotics, internet of things, block chain technology and smart software 
  • The implications of Natural language processing and conversational artificial intelligence robotics (e.g. ChatGPT, Goodle and Microsoft ) in teaching, learning and assessments.
  • Addressing the digital divide – (Tools of the trade such as Moodle LMS through remote connectivity, devices, etc.)
  • Staff and student Moodle LMS user experience, success, and retention
  • Secure Teaching and Learning (Protect Student Privacy, POPIA, GDPR compliance, etc.)
  • Education and the Metaverse (e.g. Smart Campus)
  • The datafication of teaching, learning and student support (e.g., Moodle Analytics during the Student Journey (from application stage to alumni status) and for Early Alerts on student performance and Student as Risk)
  • Ecosystems, composability, and modularity
  • Platformitisation (e.g. Moodle EdTech) and commercialization (e.g. MOOCs and OERs)
  • Micro credentialing
  • Increasing access to educational opportunities, inclusivity
  • Integration to/with other Teaching and Learning systems (e.g., Student Information System, ERP/Student Finance, etc.)

    • Moodle Performance Tuning & Stabilisation
    • Database Management and optimisation
  • Education Technology
    • Moocs
    • OERs
    • Cloud computing
  • Moodle LMS Innovations
    • Integrations & Plug-Ins, e.g. online assessments, quality assurance, etc.
    • Data Analytics across the student walk / journey
    • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to enhance teaching, learning and assessment using Moodle LMS

IV.    Conference Structure

  • Pre-conference workshops (20 August) – proposals invited
  • Plenary sessions with keynote addresses by invited keynote speakers
  • Panel discussions where invited experts will debate topical and pertinent Moodle LMS  practical issues
  • Scheduled breakaway sessions of presentations;
  • Ice-breaker and networking session – 20 August 2023
  • Gala dinner – 21 August 2023
