Dr Moses B Khanyile
Director of the Centre for Military Studies (CEMIS) and the Director of the Defence Artificial Intelligence Research Unit (DAIRU) at the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa
Moses B. Khanyile is currently serving as the Director of the Centre for Military Studies (CEMIS) and the Director of the Defence Artificial Intelligence Research Unit (DAIRU) at the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. His experience, which spans over many years, includes policy development, strategic management and financial technology solutions in both public and private sectors. He has previously received ministerial assignments which include being a member of the Defence Review Committee that drafted the 2015 Defence Review; a Non-Executive Director in the Armscor Board, and the National Coordinator of the National Defence Industry Council (NDIC).
He has also previously served as Director Planning & Programming in the South African Department of Defence. From a private sector perspective, he has served as an executive in the Absa/Barclays Bank, as managing director of Masharps College and the first chairperson of the Defence Industry Fund Advisory Board. In the academic space, he provides academic services for masters and doctoral students at Stellenbosch University, University of South Africa (UNISA), Wits University, and Da Vinci Business School. He is the Editor of the Defence Innovation and Management in Africa (DIMA) journal and sits in the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Central and Eastern European Studies of Óbuda University (Hungary) and the Africa Journal of Employee Relations from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
He holds a PhD in International Politics, a Master of Arts (MA), Master of Laws (LLM), and a Master of Business Leadership (MBL). He has received management and leadership training from institutions in England, Germany, and the USA. He has written, presented and published widely on matters pertaining to global security, defence policy, and defence industry
