Short biography

Koliswa Matebese-Notshulwana, PhD (Known as Dr. Koli) a gender-based-violence survivor and author of a memoir titled “I Kept on Crying”. She is a qualified teacher by training, a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Thabo Mbeki African School of Public and International Affairs. She obtained her doctorate from the University of Pretoria (2020), MPhil from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), 2012 and BA from University of Port Elizabeth (UPE), 1999.

Her research interests are in the areas of governance, legislative oversight, education, development, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Her leadership roles include the appointment as a Secretary for the Humanities and Social Sciences Alumni Association (HSSAA). She co-edited a book title: “Doctoral Journeys in the Humanities and Social Sciences in South African Universities”; and currently co-editing a book on Good Governance and Service Delivery in South Africa.

Her recent publications include, Legislative oversight as a critical component in repositioning African countries for a more engaged role in the world. Journal of Public Administration, (JOPA). 2024, 59(4):1-11; Why tools matter in monitoring and evaluation. In: Mello, D.M and Basheka, B. (eds).
