Professor Lee Rusznyak is a leading teacher educator based at the University of the Witwatersrand. She has published extensively on preparing pre-service teachers for South African classrooms. Her research spans curriculum coherence, inclusive education, educational justice, assessment and developing expertise in classroom practice. She lectures decolonization of the curriculum to postgraduate students and supports newly qualified teachers in thinking about decolonizing their classrooms.
Lee was a researcher on the National Initial Teacher Education Research Project and played a leading role in supporting the South African Council of Educators (SACE) develop a set of National Professional Teaching Standards. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator for the ‘Teacher Choices in Action’ Project – an online module that prepares students for work-integrated learning. Since 2020, it has been completed by 70,000 pre-service teachers from 24 South African universities. She is the director of the Wits Legitimation Code Theory Hub which advances scholarly teaching and ground-breaking research into the preparation of students for professional practices.
