Final confirmation of the 2018 Unisa SRC Election Results

The Unisa Electoral Policy for a Student Representative Council implicitly makes provision for a cooling-off period after the official announcement of the SRC Election result by the IEC. In terms of section 12.3 of the Electoral Policy: "Any dispute must be submitted to the independent election tribunal no later than five working days after the IEC's official announcement of the election results."

Following the official announcement of the results on 29 August 2018, the IEC was advised by the Independent Election Tribunal on 6 September 2018 that there were no formal disputes lodged with the Tribunal by the contesting parties in line with section 12.2 of the Electoral Policy which states: "A dispute must be presented in writing in the prescribed format, and where necessary, must be accompanied by supporting documentation."

The IEC expresses its sincere appreciation to all the stakeholders who participated in the project.

The process of inaugurating the eight (8) Regional SRCs and the National SRC will commence soon, and the IEC will be visiting all the regional hubs for the purposes of inauguration of the Regional Student Representative Councils and Regional Student Parliaments.

We appeal for cooperation and tolerance to all stakeholders as we take on the final phase of the election project.

The IEC is committed to delivering credible, free and fair elections.

Warm regards
