Theme: Albert Luthuli Research Chair at the University of South Africa: Social Memory, Politics, Ethics, Language, Culture, Knowledge, and Artificial Intelligence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Beginning with Albert Luthuli as a study in the uses of social memory, the lecture explores the complex relationship between politics, ethics, language, culture, knowledge, and Artificial Intelligence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The idea of the singularity – that ordinary human beings will someday be overtaken by artificially intelligent machines or cognitively enhanced biological intelligence, or both - is a source of inspiration and a medium for exploring important political, social, economic, philosophical, and educational ideas, and how they will play out in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
