Biography:

Vishal Ramnath is originally from Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. He obtained a BScEng degree in mechanical engineering with additional majors in both pure mathematics and applied mathematics from the University of Natal (now UKZN) in 2001, a BEngHons degree in mechanical engineering with a specialization in thermoflow from the University of Pretoria in 2005, and a MEng degree by dissertation with distinction in mechanical engineering from the University of Pretoria in 2018. After obtaining his first engineering degree and gaining practical industry experience doing mechatronics automation contract work at a local factory in Pietermaritzburg he then relocated and worked within the parastatal sector doing maintenance, quality, testing and research work originally as a R&D Metrologist focusing on heat transfer work with a main specialization in radiation thermometry at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa from 2002 to 2007, and thereafter as a R&D Metrologist focusing on fluid mechanics and applied statistics with a main specialization in pressure and vacuum metrology at the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa from 2007 to 2012. Since 2013 he is a permanent academic staff member with tenure at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa in the Department of Mechanical Engineering where he presently works as a Lecturer: Mechanical Engineering teaching a mixture of courses mainly focusing on engineering kinematics & dynamics and mechatronics & measurement systems. Over the years he has produced 20 authored or co-authored publications in various conferences and journals, and his current research interests are primarily in the areas of thermoflow as applied to energy related studies and on Monte Carlo mathematical and Bayesian statistical modelling as applied to advanced uncertainty analysis techniques. Mr. Ramnath is an elected full member of the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineers (SAIMechE) and a member of the non-profit International Association of Engineers (IAENG).
