On 16 April 2025, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Mcpherson, announced the appointment of Professor Kemlall Ramdass as a member of the seventh term of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). Ramdass is a full professor in the Department of Industrial and Engineering Management at Unisa’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET). The four-year term of the appointment extends from 23 April 2025 to 22 April 2029.

Being appointed as a member of the ECSA entails professional registration, which signifies a recognised level of competence and ethical conduct in the engineering field. It also includes a commitment to uphold standards, adhere to codes of practice, and contribute to the profession's advancement.

In his appointment letter to Ramdass, Minister McPherson said: “I am confident that your experience and commitment to the built environment will contribute significantly to the ECSA’s strategic leadership in the improvement and transformation of the built environment, which will ultimately impact positively on the South African society.”
Ramdass is also focusing on supervising postgraduate students registered under the School of Engineering at Unisa and mentoring emerging researchers in the Department of Industrial and Engineering Management. He says that he wants to contribute to building a strong Industrial and engineering management department at Unisa that is a force to be reckoned with in South Africa. He also wants to be remembered for working tirelessly to achieve the best for the university.
