ICT4D Research Flagship

Our Programmes

ICT4D Flagship is involved in the following four areas:

  • Research;
  • Community engagement;
  • Seminars and colloquiums;
  • Innovation and software development.

In research the flagship is involved in e-health research, educational technology research, e-government research as well as research in community informatics. The flagship makes a significant contribution to the total research outputs in the School of Computing.

Community Engagement

The flagship has community engagement as one of its pillars. In its community engagement the flagship is working with several community based organisations in Siyabuswa community in Mpumalanga Province.

Seminars and Colloquiums

Annually the flagship hosts several seminars and gatherings of academics. The seminars feature high profile presenters, for instance we have hosted Prof. Geoff Walsham from Cambridge University and Prof. Robert Davison from City University of Hong Kong.

Innovation and Software Development

The members of the flagship are involved in three software development projects, these are, the development of an e-health decision support system for primary health care, a knowledge management portal for ICT4D research and a mobile development project having the youth as its participants.
