Prof Elsabe P Kearsley
Professor in Civil Engineering (Concrete Materials) Department of Civil Engineering, Pretoria University, RSA
Professor Elsabe Kearsley is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria. She is registered as professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and a NRF rated researcher. During the last 30 years her research focussed on reducing the environmental impact of the cement and concrete industry. This can be achieved through using recycled materials and waste streams from industrial processes in cement and concrete, reducing the volume of raw materials used by optimizing concrete mix compositions or improving assumptions made during the design and construction of concrete infrastructure. She has been supervising postgraduate research students and conducting not only experimental laboratory studies to determine the effect of different waste streams and mix compositions on concrete properties but also conducing Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of concrete infrastructure to determine the effect of environmental conditions on concrete behaviour over extended periods of time.
