Prof Tella Adeyinka

Prof Tella Adeyinka is a Professor and currently the Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, Nigeria.

Tella attended St. Andrews College of Education, Oyo from 1989-92, where he obtained a national certificate in education (NCE) certificate which qualifies him as a professional teacher. He later gained direct entry admission to the most prestigious university in Nigeria i.e. The University of Ibadan where He obtained his Bachelor's Degree Certificate in Guidance and Counselling/Political Science and graduated with a Second Class Honour, Upper Division.

After his Youth Core in the year 2000, Tella enrolled for a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology in the same University of Ibadan and finished in 2001. He enrolled on another Master’s Degree programme in Library and Information Studies in the same university and finished in 2004.

Tella returned to Counselling Psychology to commence a Ph.D. degree in Test, Measurement and Evaluation. He was about to present His proposal for the Ph.D. when the result of the Commonwealth Scholarship which he earlier applied for was released. Eventually, he was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship to Study Library and Information Science at the University of Botswana in Gaborone in Oct 2005 and finished on Sept. 29th, 2009.

Tella was rated the 28th scientist in Nigeria and by implication no 1 in his University in the ranking of scientists in Nigeria released by Webometrics(Web of Science and Google) in March 2015; and No 35 in Nigeria in the subsequent ratings.

In 2007, Tella was awarded a small grant for thesis writing for the Ph.D. students’ category in Africa by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).

He has written and published articles mostly in International reputable refereed journals together with chapters in books. He is an editorial member/reviewer of many Web of Science and Scopus-based LIS journals.

Currently, he is the Editor of Ilorin Varsity International Journal of Library and Information Science, former Editor-in-Chief-International Journal of Information Processing and Communication (IJIPC) and ‘The University Research Journal, Library Philosophy and Practice, Nigerian Libraries, Ghana Library Journal, Regional Journal of Information and Knowledge Management, Zambian Journal of Library and Information Science.  His research areas include ICT4Development, e-learning, information literacy, information communication technology in libraries including 4IR, Psychology of information, Research Methodology in Library and Information Science and Information Ethics, and Knowledge Management, etc.

Tella is an external examiner for LIS Ph.D. candidates at Babcock University, the University of Calabar, the University of Ibadan, Bayero University, Kano, Lead City University in Nigeria; the University of Fort Hare, the University of Zululand, the University of South-Africa, the University of Limpopo, Durban University of Technology, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and the University of Zambia in Lusaka.  

Tella was awarded a Research Fellow by the Department of Information Science, University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria South Africa in 2016 for three years period – 2016-2018; and a Visiting Researcher in the same Department beginning from Nov. 2019. Tella was re-awarded Research Fellow at the Department of Information Science, University of South Africa for another three years from 2021-2024.

Three times consecutively, Tella was declared the winner of the prestigious Dr. T.M. Salisu award for the Most Published Librarian in Nigeria in 2015, 2017, and 2018 by the Nigerian Library Association. 

Tella has two times been the 2nd First Chairman of the Nigerian Library Association Kwara State Branch, and is now, National Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Library and Information Science Educators (NALISE).

Currently, Tella has published over 250 academic papers mostly in Web of Science/Schimago ranked journals, edited conference proceedings and chapters in books. In addition, he has edited six information Science reference texts; and has another FOUR currently ongoing.

As of 13th April 2023, Tella is having an H-Index of 34, an i10-Index of 75, and has been cited 5343 times. 

Tella was a rated C2 Researcher by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) in February 2022. With this rating, Tella’s research activities will be funded for FIVE years (2022-2027) by this body.

Tella is available for any research assistance by the research students either at the master's or doctoral levels. He is also available for any local or international research collaboration.
