Research intake

The SARChI Chair in Social Policy provides programmes for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, Doctoral Degrees and Master’s Degrees.  Successful candidates join the research team on the theme of “rethinking Social Policy: in search of inclusive development”.  The research sub-themes include: The SARChI Chair in Social Policy provides programmes for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, Doctoral Degrees and Master’s Degrees.  Successful candidates join the research team on the theme of “rethinking Social Policy: in search of inclusive development”.  The research sub-themes include:

Rethinking Poverty:

  • Precarious Non-Poor and the Understanding of Poverty
  • Middleclass Perception of the poor
  • Social Policy architecture and poverty reduction

Comparative Social Policy:

  • Reflections on the African experience
  • Social Policy in the context of development

Non-formal Social Policy:

  • Non-formal Social Provisioning
  • Social Altruism and Social Provisioning

Candidates interested in other thematic areas of Social Policy are encouraged to apply.

Candidates are required to submit a two to three page Concept Note on their areas of interest for the post-doctoral or postgraduate research projects, evidence of previous scholarly works (this may include a thesis or published scholarly work) and complete an online application form.

Applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship should have at least one publication in a journal or conference proceedings.  The selection process will include formal interviews of shortlisted applicants.
