Keynote speaker

Prof Tholene Sodi is a clinical psychologist, and professor of psychology at the University of Limpopo. He is a past president of PsySSA, and former vice president of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). He is a member and vice-chairperson of the Department of Health’s Ministerial Advisory Committee on Mental Health, and is also a member of the board of the South African Medical Research Council. Prof Sodi is an NRF C2 rated researcher.


Dr Peace Kiguwa (Ph.D.) is associate professor in the School of Human and Community Development in Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand. She works and researches in gender studies, race and racialisation, and other social asymmetries. She is current chairperson of the Sexuality and Gender Division of PsySSA.

Prof Solomon Mashegoane (Ph.D.) is a professor of psychology at the University of Limpopo. He is registered with the HPSCA in the category of clinical psychologist. Prof Mashegoane’s primary teaching areas at the university are psychological assessment and health psychology, and his research focuses on issues pertaining to psychological assessment, death-related anxiety, and investigations of factors associated with health risk behaviour (such as self-objectification and spirituality/religiosity). He is an NRF rated researcher

Prof Augustine Nwoye is professor of psychology and Fulbright Scholar at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He has held distinguished teaching positions in several universities in Africa, including the University of Jos, Nigeria; Kenyatta University, in Nairobi, Kenya; the University of Dodoma, Tanzania; and Covenant University in Nigeria. During his time at Kenyatta, he helped to establish its Department of Psychology, and served as the pioneer chair of that department. Dr. Nwoye was recently in the US as a Fulbright Scholar at Howard University and the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Olga Coetzee is a consulting psychologist in private practice. Her life purpose is to enable personal growth, interpersonal relationships and opportunity thinking. She has 19 years of experience in human resources and 18 in organisational development. This experience includes strategy development and alignment, culture-, leadership- and talent development, conflict management, and valuing diversity. She obtained the degree of D.Com. (Consulting Psychology) at Unisa in 2008.
