Hackathons remain an innovation and inspiration platform globally. To this end, and to grow the innovation and entrepreneurial spaces of engagement in selected UNISA CNAs, funding and other resource mobilisation engagements are ongoing. The focus for the period 2026-2030 will be on hackathons that will excite innovation in addressing coastal, marine and maritime challenges in (South) Africa. As the initiative keep growing, international hackathons in this space will be pitched. Additional areas of interest include a focus on coastal futures and livelihoods, and transdisciplinary innovation living labs. The partnerships with UNISA coastal regions, government, municipalities, development agencies, TVET colleges, other research entities and universities, as well as communities and ordinary citizens remain the pillar. This way, the ISCC ethos to co-create, co-design, and co-deliver innovations and solutions to community challenges will be enhanced.
