Nelson Mandela Day 2018

A special Nelson Mandela day programme for female offenders was conducted at Kgoši Mampuru II correctional facility. The Division: Community Engagement and Outreach collaborated with the Department of Correctional Services.

Monitoring and Evaluation 2018

Each year the Division: Community Engagement and Outreach monitor and evaluate community engagement projects of the colleges.

Chance 2 Advance

Orange Farm Programme, 19 to 23 February 2018

The Chance 2 Advance programme (C2A) began its 2018 activities in the community of Orange Farm.  This initiative sought to provide high-quality community learning opportunities for the purpose of community empowerment. The programme was hosted in collaboration with World Vision South Africa. The week-long programme (19 to 23 February) reached a total of 1190 participants.

Benoni Programme, 3 to 12 May 2018

The Chance 2 Advance programme has had a long-standing relationship with the Highveld Anglican Board of Social Responsibility (HABSR) since 2012.  The programme (3 - 12 May) was hosted in collaboration with HABSR. The programme involved various HABSR networks and faith-based development organisations and reached a total of 533 participants.

Braamfischerville Programme, 14 to 18 May 2018

Braamfischerville is located on the outskirts of Soweto between Dobsonville and Roodepoort. The C2A programme collaborated with the Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) to hose an exciting and empowering community learning initiative from 14 to 18 May. The week-long programme themed 'Preparing for the working world' equipped the community with critical skills and relevant information to enhance their employability. The programme reached a total of 1030 participants.

Ramogwerane - Tafelkop Programme, 21 to 26 May 2018

Tafelkop is a village in the Sekhukhune District Municipality in the Limpopo province. A week-long programme themed 'Communities and Social Justice' aimed to provide critical learning opportunities in the area of Health and Social Justice. The programme reached a total of 1879 participants. 

Diepsloot Programme, 21 June 2018

Since 2012 the C2A programme has continued supporting the community of Diepsloot through community learning and empowerment programmes. A special programme focusing on Entering the Job Market was held for 40 students of the Rhiza Babuyile organisation.

Baviaanspoort Programme, 21 June 2018

The College of Education community engagement project 'Special and Prison Schools" and C2A collaborated to host a special programme at the Baviaasnpoort correctional facility.  The End User Computing workshop was afforded to a total of 21 offenders.

Sandton Programme, 26 June 2018

A special workshop was hosted at the request of Netcare that dealt with engaged scholarship and the Unisa Chance 2 Advance programme. A total of 15 participants from various Netcare offices across South Africa joined the workshop.

Nelson Mandela Day Programme, 26 June 2018

A special programme for female offenders was conducted at the Kgoši Mampuru II correctional facility to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day. The Chance 2 Advance presented a workshop titled Women at the Crossroads The Via Optima. The workshop focused on the biblical text Jeremiah 6:16. 

Centurion Programme, 7 August 2018

A special programme was hosted at the request of Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa (ECIC). The programme was celebrating women's day and had a specific focus on Women Empowerment. 

12th  Biennial Consultation on Urban Ministry, 15 to 17 August 2018

The Chance 2 Advance collaborated with the Institute of Urban Ministry, Tshwane Leadership Foundation, University of Pretoria and other civil society partners to host the 12th Biennial Consultation on Urban Ministry in the Pretoria inner city.
