Convocation

1. Terms of reference (functions)

 The Convocation has the following functions:

  • To nominate members of the Convocation to Council;
  • To advise Council or Management on matters of present interest;
  • To assist the University and the Unisa Foundation in fundraising;
  • To nominate persons for the conferment of honorary degrees;
  • To perform or advise on such other functions as determined by Management or Council.

2. Functions of the President of the Convocation

The President:

  • convenes meetings of the Convocation; and
  • presides at the meetings of the Convocation.

3. Composition of the Convocation

5. Chapters of the Convocation

On recommendation of the Management Committee, Council decides on the establishment of chapters of the Convocation.

(i) Constitution

  • A chapter of the Convocation consists of all the Convocation members in a particular region.
  • The Convocation will have a chapter in all regions which are geographically defined by Unisa.
  • Each regional office of Unisa will be a seat of a chapter of the Convocation.

Chapters of the Convocation are established to ensure that members will have access to and contact with other members in their respective regions, and to enhance personal contact between Unisa and members of the Convocation.

Eleven chapters have been established to date.

(ii) Functions

A chapter of the Convocation has the following functions:

  • To assist in the nomination of members of the Convocation to Council;
  • To advise the Convocation on matters of present interest;
  • To assist the University in fundraising efforts;
  • To perform such other functions as determined by the President of the  Convocation.
